Driven by his passion for winemaking, Adolfo de las Heras Marín founded Bodegas y Viñedos de Utiel in 1985, acquiring one of the estates with the greatest ecological and oenological value in the Valencian Region. El Renegado spans 540 hectares and includes a vineyard and a forest; 80% of the vineyards grow the native Bobal grape and are more than 40 years old. Adolfo was a pioneer in introducing other varieties such as Merlot or Cabernet into the area. He was also one of the first viticulturists to make high-quality bottled wine. During the estates’ first years, he marketed young wines and explored new coupage and oenological methods. His son, Adolfo de las Heras Polo, revolutionised the winery at the end of the 90s when he took the reins.
